Blacksmith iron fire poker

Blacksmith iron fire poker
Traditionally made and forged fire pokers are some of our favorite tools to make. Not only are these pokers made to function, they’re pieces of art that can hold up to use. Each one is hand forged in our shop combining ancient and modern blacksmithing techniques. Each of our iron fire pokers are unique and make great gifts for the outdoor and fire- making enthusiast They are roughly 32-36" long and are made to last! We want our work to be passed down through the generations and be appreciated- not made to fail and be recycled like so many other products made today.
Care and use:
We finish our pokers with a traditional, natural bee’s wax based finish. They’re what we call “hot waxed” where the piece is heated enough to smoke and “cook” the wax onto the surface of the metal. (much like seasoning cast iron pans and cookware) It gives a beautiful finish that highlights the look of the natural steel and lets the hand forging marks shine.
Storage:
We recommend storing these tools in a dry place indoors or under cover. They will rust given time in the elements, and although it won’t affect the usefulness or function, it will make them a little messier to handle. If any surface rust appears, they can be cleaned with a wire brush or mild abrasive steel pad and re-sealed
Re-Sealing:
Sealing our steel wares is a simple process. Once cleaned and free of rust, they can be wiped with some mineral oil or any other oil desired. We typically lean towards anything food safe such as mineral oil, linseed oil, vegetable oil etc. If desired, they can also be coated with high temperature paints to seal them.
